Whiteboards Rule

I find it very disruptive and unproductive to try and type issues, risks, status, and other information into Jira, atTask, or whatever tool teams are using during standup. Frequently, it’s just an excuse for a Scrum Master to look like they are adding value by futzing with the technology on a big screen. I often counsel,  “If you can’t get it right on a whiteboard, you can’t get it right in an online tool.” So, I recommend teams have two or three large whiteboards and, at least for a few sprints, set them up like the one above. Of course, no matter how hard we try, someone on the team is always offsite, so we have to make sure all of the key information that was noted on the whiteboards are also captured in the online tool (right after the standup).
